"New Engine 2 Goes 'Home' For First Fire"

On Friday 10-6-06 around 10:30am, Woodlawn Fire Company was dispatched for a "back-up" engine Mutual-Aid to Lakeshore Fire Company for an alarm activation and water flow alarm at the American LaFrance facility on Camp Road. Woodlawn 2 was first to respond and further reports indicated that there was some type of fire in the power room at the rear of the manufacturing plant. Lakeshore's Assistant Chief arrived on location and assumed command and found moderate smoke throughout the structure and requested the balance of the second alarm. Woodlawn 2 was first to arrive on location and was greeted by the employees of the facility, gathered in the parking lot, all cheering as the new Fire Engine built by them pulled in for its very first call since being placed into service earlier in the week. Woodlawn 2 went to the rear of the facility and stretched a 1-3/4" attack line and prepared for entry along with an Assistant Chief from Hamburg. The crew from Scranton's Truck 6 entered the room of origin and disabled the power and shut down the sprinkler system which had done its job in knocking out the fire. The fire was contained to the power room and the building was ventilated. After a short time all units were picked up and back in service.
