Things are finally
getting back to normal after last Thursday’s winter ice storm that
left approximately 500,000 people without power and heat. National
Grid has been working around the clock to get power back on, however
around 100,000 people are still without it. Throughout Hamburg
countless trees were brought down by the storm and in some cases
into structures. The Woodlawn Fire Hall did not escape undamaged;
some external and internal damages were inflicted to the hall due to
the “wonder” of the storm. Streets are being cleared and downed
trees are being removed.
Volunteer Fire Companies including Woodlawn have also been working
24/7 to respond to EMS and Fire calls related to the storm. Here at
Woodlawn many members have called the hall home for the past four
days, volunteering their time to respond to any calls that may have
come in and opening the doors to the cold and hungry. Woodlawn Fire
Company responded to several requests for basement pumps and
rendered mutual aid to other companies for EMS transports. With any
luck we have seen the last of any storm related calls here in
Woodlawn.
Woodlawn Fire Company would like to show our appreciation to the
Blasdell Fire Company for their efforts and hospitality in feeding
and sheltering those in need including cooking dinner for many
Woodlawn Firefighters.
